The journey of Assam Electronics Development Corporation Ltd. began in Northeast in1984 with the manufacturing of electronic goods, black & white and color television assembling units.

Mandate of the Department

The Government of Assam created a separate IT Department on the 22nd August 2003 vide Notification No : AR.1/2003/65 Dt 22/08/2003, to focus its thrust on the development of ICT in the state. On creation of the Department, the Assam Electronics Development Corporation Ltd (AMTRON), a Government of Assam undertaking, was transferred from the Industry & Commerce Department, Government of Assam, and brought under the administrative purview of this department. Additionally, the Assam Remote Sensing Application Center (ARSAC) under the Science & Technology Department of the Government of Assam was also brought under the administrative purview of this Department.
